Hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) is the Danish obsession with getting cozy. And now that fall is in the air, it feels like the perfect time to talk about how to embrace it!

How do you do it?

Easy enough, hygge isn’t something you learn "how to" do and it's not necessary to go buy anything either. Hygge simply requires you to slow down, be present and take pleasure from the simple things in life.

What are the benefits?

Hygge is known to bring you happiness, warmth, contentment, and security, so long as you take the time to truly appreciate it. As some of you may know, Scandinavian countries rank highly on the happiness list and it’s mainly because they make meaningful relationships, have a positive social culture and are able to slow down.

If hygge is something that will help us to be grateful and bring us happiness through moments of simplicity, then I think it’s time we take action. During the colder months, I am going to challenge myself to find hygge in everyday routine. Just like Scandinavian countries, Canada can bring long, cold, depressing winters and instead of dreading it, I am going to embrace it with hygge. So expect to see the kettle on full tilt and ALL the candles lit in my apartment!

Light candles, everywhere.

Cozy up with a warm blanket and read a book.
