Doing Well: Sun Exposure
One of things I’ve been doing lately to stay well is getting outside in the sunshine without SPF for at least 20 minutes a day.
It’s the ultimate mood booster! When our skin is exposed to sunlight, we produce vitamin D when the suns UVB rays hit the cholesterol in our skin cells! Vitamin D is essential for producing our mood boosting happy hormone, aka serotonin.
Of course it’s important to be sun safe, but be sure to allow your body to absorb some UVB rays naturally to the skin without a UVB blocking sunscreen! AND be mindful of your skin colour - lighter skin requires less time, while darker skin will take longer to absorb!
One more quick tip. Did you know that we even absorb vitamin d through our eyes? If you’re the type to always have sunnies on, walk around for a few minutes with them on your head to take in all that sunshine bliss!
